This document outlines the targeted technical code improvements released in FastGPT 4.16, designed to enhance security, maintainability, and consistency for self-hosted FastGPT deployments.

Sandbox Infrastructure Overhauls

The Sandbox Adapter codebase was split into four distinct modular components to improve maintainability and separation of concerns:

Sandbox Adapter ComponentCore Responsible Scope
Lifecycle ModuleSandbox instance startup and shutdown lifecycle management
Filesystem ModuleAll filesystem operations within sandbox environments
Command Execution ModuleSecure command execution workflows inside sandboxes
Provider ContractStandardized interface for sandbox provider integration

The E2B Adapter was fully removed from the FastGPT codebase. Additionally, both the Agent Sandbox Proxy and IDE Agent received critical security updates: direct Workspace preview support, range request handling, path traversal protection, and session authentication controls were implemented to reduce exposure to common attacks.

Workflow and Tooling Standardization

Workflow schemas were optimized to reduce redundancy and improve compatibility across the platform. Tool calls were unified with form rendering to create consistent interaction patterns for both end-users and internal systems. Tool JSON Schema support was extended to cover additional data types, expanding the range of compatible custom and built-in tool configurations. All service file-read timeouts were standardized across internal services to eliminate inconsistent timeout behavior that could cause unexpected workflow failures.

Core System Hardening and Refactoring

Multiple high-impact system modules were refactored to improve security and maintainability. System tool permissions were hardened specifically for multi-process deployments to limit unnecessary access and reduce the overall attack surface. The login and authentication codebase was fully refactored to streamline security updates and reduce technical debt. The platform’s rate-limiting module was completely rewritten to standardize rate control across all API endpoints, ensuring consistent request throttling behavior.
