Supplier and Process Quality Audit for Printing and Packaging Processing: Tool Calling and Plugins

This category of data comes from customer manuscripts, color management systems, printing press data, ink and substrate batch records, spectrometers

What this category of data looks like

This category of data comes from customer manuscripts, color management systems, printing press data, ink and substrate batch records, spectrometers, and barcode detectors. Daily documents include pre-press files, imposition sheets, printing process sheets, ink color matching records, first article sign-off samples, barcode inspection reports, and die-cutting and lamination records. Fields include plate version, color parameters, barcode number, substrate batch number, and others. Updates are triggered per order, per batch, or each time a plate change is performed.

Data sources for this category are scattered and updated frequently with orders, batches, or plate changes. Tool calling must be adapted to pull and parse multi-source heterogeneous data. Document types are diverse and fields are highly specialized. Plugins must support parsing process sheets, inspection reports, and other files in different formats. Key verification fields such as barcodes and color parameters require precise matching. Tool calling must be bound to specific inspection data sources. Plate version errors can be replicated rapidly and lead to full batch scrap. Tools must automatically trigger verification at key nodes to avoid redundant or delayed audit operations.

How to Set Up the Configuration

This configuration is based on FastGPT v4.17.0, and uses the toolChoice and functionCall parameters to enable flexible configuration and mandatory verification of tool calling.

Configuration ItemRecommended SettingRationale
Workflow/API tool selectionautoAllows the model to automatically choose between generating results directly or calling tools to complete professional verification based on the audit task type
Workflow/API function-call configurationrequiredForces the model to call specific tools to complete highly specialized audit links such as barcode inspection, color verification, and plate version matching
Word document parsing configurationEnable tracked changes recognition modePre-press files for this category often contain revised layout content, and plugins must accurately extract final version content
Tool calling trigger conditionsTriggered upon new order generation or plate change operationData for this category updates with plate changes and orders. Tool calling must be triggered at key nodes to avoid redundant requests
Tool calling timeout and retries300–600 seconds timeout, maximum 3 retriesPulling printing press data and spectrometer data takes a certain amount of time. Set reasonable thresholds and retry counts based on actual measurements
Exception push configurationTrigger DingTalk webhook when barcode inspection fails or plate version errors occur, once every 15 minutesSynchronize audit exceptions to relevant positions in a timely manner, and avoid interfering with normal work with repeated pushes

Three Common Misconfigurations

  • Phenomenon: The plate version field is empty in audit results returned by the tool. Cause: Tool calling is not configured to trigger on plate change operations. The pulled data is from an old imposition sheet, and the latest version information is not synchronized. This easily leads to the risk of full batch scrap.
  • Phenomenon: No push record is generated after calling the DingTalk webhook. Cause: Specific exception scenarios such as failed barcode inspection or plate version errors are not bound in the configuration. Only a general push trigger condition is set.
  • Phenomenon: Tool calling returns a timeout error with status code 504. Cause: A reasonable timeout threshold is not set. Pulling batch data from multiple printing presses at the same time exceeds the system response limit.

How to Verify the Configuration Is Correct

  • Submit a test pre-press file that contains revised content, and verify that the plugin has enabled tracked changes recognition mode and extracted the final version content.
  • Submit a test imposition sheet and pre-press file, and verify that the system automatically triggers tool calling and pulls the corresponding ink color matching records.
  • Simulate a scenario where barcode inspection fails, and verify that the DingTalk webhook push is triggered to the specified receiving channel.
  • Adjust the tool calling timeout threshold, simulate a slow data pull scenario, and verify that the timeout and retry logic take effect as configured.

The values provided are common starting points and should be measured against corresponding in-house samples.
