What This Category of Data Looks Like
Core data for this category comes from customer drawings, special characteristic lists, ERP/MES systems, measuring tools, equipment process parameters, and supplier quality certificates. Daily documents include control plans, process flowcharts, work instructions, first-piece and patrol inspection records, SPC reports, PPAP materials, and 8D reports. Data is updated with each production batch, each shift’s patrol inspection, and continuous collection of equipment parameters. Document structures are mostly structured tables, process texts, and standardized reports. Fields include process number, characteristic parameters, detection values, batch number, and others. Units are mostly industrial standard units common in the automotive manufacturing industry, such as millimeters, newton meters, and similar units.
What Constraints Do These Characteristics Impose on the Vector Model and Index Link
The data characteristics of this category impose multiple constraints on the vector model and index link. Multi-source and heterogeneous document types, including structured tables, process texts, standardized reports, and real-time equipment parameters, require indexes to support vector encoding of mixed data types. Index logic that only adapts to plain text should be avoided. The high-frequency update rhythm—updates with each batch, each shift, and continuous parameter collection—requires indexes to support incremental updates. This reduces the time spent on full index reconstruction. Highly compliant documents such as PPAP and 8D reports require indexes to retain metadata associations with original documents. This facilitates subsequent traceability. Batched production data requires indexes to be partitioned by production batch. This enables fast retrieval of associated documents by production batch.
How to Configure Settings
The following configurations are adapted for FastGPT v4.17.0.
| Configuration Item | Recommended Setting | Rationale |
|---|---|---|
| Chunk Length | 800–1200 characters | The effective single-segment information length of documents such as work instructions and SPC reports for this category mostly falls within this range, avoiding disruption to the associativity of structured fields during chunking |
| Overlap Length | 100–200 characters | Frequently updated equipment parameter documents need to retain contextual association between adjacent chunks, ensuring complete information during retrieval |
defaultToken | 4096 | Compliant documents such as PPAP materials for this category have relatively long lengths, requiring sufficient token length to carry complete context |
maxToken | Set to the selected embedding model/service maximum supported input tokens | maxToken is the input-token maximum supported by the selected embedding model/service; verify it in that provider configuration. See the v4.17.2 model-field reference. It is not retrieval/LLM context or a FastGPT-wide fixed cap. |
| Single Search Limit | Top 8 entries | Equipment inspection queries mostly relate to limited documents for a single process or batch, and excessive results will increase inference time |
| Similarity Threshold | Calibrated via actual testing | The numerical differences in detection parameters for this category are relatively small, requiring adjustment of the threshold based on actual retrieval scenarios to ensure recall accuracy |
Three Common Misconfigurations
- Enabling the Doubao-embedding-large embedding model in the FastGPT knowledge base settings, filling in a custom request address and API key, then clicking test directly triggers an error prompt. The cause is failure to confirm the adaptability of the custom address and API key, or the embedding model’s interface return format does not meet FastGPT’s vector encoding requirements.
- Importing table data into the knowledge base, but retrieval fails to match structured field content within the table. The cause is failure to enable the multi-vector support configuration for table data. Only plain text content is vector-encoded, and vectors are not generated separately for table cells, row, and column information.
- After configuring the embedding model and passing the Agent test for normal responses, refreshing the knowledge base page still displays the prompt "No available index model detected". The cause is that the index model configuration was not saved to the knowledge base’s active configuration, or the system cache has not synchronized the latest model configuration information.
How to Confirm Successful Configuration
- Enter the vector model configuration page of the knowledge base, confirm that the adapted embedding model is selected, and that the custom request address and API key are filled correctly.
- Import a typical document of this category, such as a work instruction or SPC report, perform manual chunking and indexing, and check whether the chunking results conform to the preset length and overlap rules.
- Initiate a test query related to equipment inspection, check whether the retrieval results include associated document fragments, and whether the quantity matches the set single search limit.
- Refresh the knowledge base page, confirm that the prompt related to the index model no longer appears, and the system loads the configuration information normally.
