What the documents look like
Cold-chain receiving at a store revolves around each arriving batch. The working materials are the refrigerated vehicle temperature record, the arrival acceptance form, the rejection form, and the supplier delivery note. The parties named in these materials are the fresh warehouse and distribution side, the store receiving side, and the quality inspector. The object is a specific batch of goods, and the batch state can be accepted, rejected, or pending recheck. Temperature records and acceptance conclusions are produced batch by batch, and the brief gives a daily and per-batch update rhythm.
Product data and selection questions turn those documents into searchable knowledge base content. The vector model and index step decides whether this material can be reached by semantic recall. A numeric temperature range in a temperature record, a batch number on an acceptance form, and a rejection reason description each suit a different retrieval path. Identifier-type content depends on full-text retrieval, while reason descriptions depend on semantic retrieval. The brief also separates this category from fruit purchasing: cold-chain receiving tracks transport temperature and arrival batch, and does not handle origin price inquiry.
Constraints at the vector indexes step
Knowledge bases joined into one search must use the same vector model, so the actual model and its input type are checked first. One source data block can be associated with multiple indexes, and the index content and the original content are checked separately. Index content is built from complete and focused information, and retrieval coverage against index length is weighed with samples. Image retrieval also depends on whether image descriptions or image vectors were generated at ingestion, and the query side alone does not settle this. After a model or index change, the same group of questions is compared against the cited original text, and no effect is promised from a vector score alone.
Semantic recall and relevance do not perform permission or entity isolation. The same-vector-model requirement for joined retrieval bases does not extend to external systems needing the same model. Knowledge bases built on different vector models cannot be joined, so the identifiers are checked, non-matching bases are excluded, and the actual observation is recorded. When the empty-reference output has length 0, the path still runs through, and that output can support a downstream design check.
Hypothetical paper sample
The following is paper material for checking on this page. It does not indicate that real business activity occurred.
Material one (arrival acceptance form excerpt): "Batch LC-2024-0312, arrival date 12 March 2024, refrigerated vehicle temperature record range 2 to 6 degrees Celsius, sampling passed, acceptance state: accepted."
Material two (rejection form excerpt): "Batch LC-2024-0315, arrival date 15 March 2024, temperature record range 9 to 11 degrees Celsius, sampling found wilted leafy greens, rejection reason: temperature over limit, state: rejected."
Draft sentence to be judged: "Batch LC-2024-0315 has completed acceptance and entered storage."
Configuration and implementation checks
| Configuration item | Hypothetical starting point for this check | Reason for the choice and comparison method |
|---|---|---|
| Vector model | A general vector model supporting text input is assumed | The materials are text records; the input type is checked first, separate from an image vector model |
| Search mode | Hybrid retrieval is assumed first | Batch numbers and reason descriptions coexist; compare identifier hits against pure semantic retrieval |
| Reference limit | A starting point of 3000 tokens is assumed | A single batch's materials are short; compare against 1500 tokens for whether citations are cut |
| Minimum relevance | A starting point of 0.3 is assumed | Observe whether reason descriptions are filtered out; compare recalled item counts against 0.5 |
| Question optimization | Assumed enabled | Completes references in multi-turn batch follow-ups; compare first-turn hits against disabled |
| Result rerank | An available rerank model is assumed configured and enabled | Secondary ordering when candidates are many; compare ordering position before and after rerank |
These values are hypothetical starting points for this check and are not official defaults. RRF is a fusion process for mixed results and is not a switch setting. The reference limit is counted in tokens, not in items.
Three common errors
- Handing batch number retrieval to semantic recall. Input "LC-2024-0315", compare the returns from semantic retrieval and full-text retrieval, and observe whether the identifier is hit accurately. Identifier-type information depends on full-text retrieval.
- Treating minimum relevance as a permission filter. Input a question concerning another store, compare the returned content against the accessible range, and observe whether records outside authority appear. Relevance is a filtering threshold and does not carry entity isolation.
- Treating image retrieval as a default execution path. Input a plain text question, compare whether an image description or image vector result is produced, and observe whether a corresponding image input and model capability exist. Image retrieval requires an image input and model capability.
How to verify the setup
- Check material one's original text against the draft sentence "Batch LC-2024-0315 has completed acceptance and entered storage." Input the draft sentence, compare the state recorded in material two, "rejected," and observe whether a mutually exclusive value appears for the same subject, same batch, and same field. Material two records that batch as rejected, and the draft sentence's statement of completed acceptance is not supported.
- Check material two's original text against the sentence "The rejection reason is temperature over limit." Input that sentence, compare the rejection reason field recorded in material two, and observe whether the cited content contains that field's original text. Material two clearly records temperature over limit, and the sentence agrees with the original text.
- Check a query with no corresponding material, "acceptance conclusion for batch LC-2024-0399." Input that query, compare the returned cited content, and observe whether the output is an array of length 0. That batch does not appear in the sample materials, so this is an unsupported case; record the evidence gap and do not judge it as a negation or a conflict.
