What the documents look like
This page covers citation tracing for inventory procurement and supplier records inside the foreign-exchange settlement and trade directory category. The working materials are foreign-exchange receipt advices, trade contracts, invoices, and foreign-exchange business registration records. The people handling them are foreign-trade finance staff, bank relationship managers, and foreign-exchange specialists. Inventory procurement and supplier records serve here as evidence of the trade background, and they must line up with the goods description, the supplier name, and the party receiving the foreign exchange.
Settlement work focuses on the authenticity of foreign-exchange funds and the trade background. It does not review a full set of letter-of-credit documents. Citation checking therefore concentrates on four fields: the party, the amount, the goods description, and the registration status. Two update rhythms appear in the the source material reads each transaction and each month. Citation tracing must compare the material version attached to a single transaction, and an earlier version and a current version may both exist.
Constraints at the citation tracing step
The knowledge-base search node selects one or more knowledge bases that share the same vector model, and it outputs a citation array whose length may be zero. When nothing is found, the output path still runs. Once citations reach the answering step, the answer must be compared line by line against the cited source text.
The minimum relevance value is a filter threshold. It applies only during semantic retrieval or when result reranking is used, and it does not carry permission or entity-isolation duties. The same-vector-model requirement applies to knowledge-base association and does not extend to business-registration websites or other external systems. Hybrid retrieval merges multiple result paths through RRF. Reranking requires a model and must be enabled by configuration. Image retrieval requires an image input and a model that supports it. These paths do not mean every request executes all of them.
Hypothetical paper exercise sample: a foreign-trade company finance staff member submits a receipt-registration check request dated 10 March 2025. The source material reads: "Supplier: Huadong Hardware Manufacturing Co., Ltd.; Contract No. HX-2025-031; Goods: stainless steel fasteners, 5,000 pieces; Receipt amount USD 48,000; Receipt date 8 March 2025; Registration status: registered." The draft sentence under review reads: "This receipt corresponds to supplier Huadong Hardware Manufacturing Co., Ltd., contract No. HX-2025-031, registration status registered, settlement may proceed." Deciding whether the draft sentence matches the source requires checking three fields: the party, the contract number, and the registration status.
Configuration and implementation checks
| Configuration item | Hypothetical starting point for this exercise | Explanation and comparison method |
|---|---|---|
| Associated knowledge bases | Select the knowledge base holding receipt advices and trade contracts | Check whether the selected knowledge bases share the same vector model identifier; exclude those that do not match |
| Search mode | Hybrid retrieval | Compare against semantic retrieval and full-text retrieval outputs, and observe whether number-type fields are hit |
| Citation limit | Set to 2,000 tokens as the hypothetical starting point | The sample material is about three sentences, so this value helps observe whether citations cover all fields; compare with a smaller value to see truncation |
| Minimum relevance | Set to 0.3 as the hypothetical starting point | Compare with 0.5 and observe whether low-relevance fragments are filtered; this value is not used to exclude unrelated business |
| Question optimization | Off | The sample question has a clear subject; with it off, compare retrieval time and hit differences |
| Result reranking | Not enabled | Confirm whether a reranking model is available; with it off, observe the RRF-merged ordering |
Three common errors
- Treating minimum relevance as a permission or entity filter. The mistaken behaviour is assuming that raising the relevance value excludes other suppliers' receipt records. The check is to enter the sample question, compare whether returned citations still contain material from other parties, and observe whether changing the relevance setting affects the party scope.
- Treating an empty citation array as a workflow error. The mistaken behaviour is judging the node as failed when the citation length is zero. The check is to use the paper input
[]to verify the downstream answering step design, and observe whether the empty array still runs the path. - Treating retrieval output as business authorization. The mistaken behaviour is using a retrieved "registered" record as the basis for concluding that settlement may proceed. The check is to compare the retrieved citation with the manual review record, and observe whether the registration status field equals settlement authorization.
How to verify the setup
- Enter the hypothetical sample source material and the draft sentence, then compare the draft sentence's party, contract number, and registration status against the corresponding fields in the source. When all three fields match with no mutually exclusive values, the draft sentence is supported by the source. When any field is not stated, record it as pending verification.
- Enter the sample question to run the knowledge-base search, then compare the returned citation array against the sample source material. When the citations cover the supplier, contract number, and registration status fields, tracing is complete. When the citations are empty, record the gap and check the downstream design.
- Enter a cross-vector-model knowledge-base association attempt, then compare the selected knowledge bases' vector model identifiers. Keep associations where identifiers match, exclude and record those that do not, and do not run cross-model retrieval to compare missed recalls.
