Product listing reviews: retrieval for staff training

Review retrieval for staff training in Product listing reviews. Check document scope, failure paths and source evidence through controlled tests.

What the documents look like

Platform product title and detail compliance concerns advertising truthfulness and qualification display. It does not cover parcel delivery. The working materials are product title tables, detail page assets, advertising prohibited-word lists, and quality inspection reports. Sources include platform rule centres, advertising law compliance checklists, brand asset libraries, and inspection body reports. Typical roles are e-commerce product operations, legal compliance, and artwork review. Errors can lead to product delisting, complaints, and administrative penalty risk. Updates arrive weekly and with each new product launch.

For store service and internal training, these materials must be retrieved and recalled to support handover and training questions. The retrieval step matches text and image similarity. It is unrelated to business authorization status.

Constraints at the retrieval step

The knowledge base search node can associate one or more knowledge bases that use the same vector model. Search modes include semantic retrieval, full-text retrieval, and hybrid retrieval. Semantic retrieval computes similarity through vector distance and suits natural language questions. Full-text retrieval relies on keyword hits and suits numbers, models, and proper nouns. Hybrid retrieval uses both recall paths and merges results through RRF. The minimum relevance score is a filter threshold and takes effect only in semantic retrieval or when result reranking is used. It does not perform permission or entity isolation. The citation limit is measured in tokens and controls the maximum content cited per search. Question optimization performs coreference resolution and question expansion, adding one model call before retrieval. Image retrieval requires image input and corresponding model capability. Reranking requires a model and must be enabled by configuration. Knowledge bases with different vector models cannot be associated together.

Hypothetical paper exercise sample: the material text for checking reads, "A certain brand moisturizing cream, specification 50 ml, inspection report number Q2024-0315, report date March 2024, conclusion: meets the requirements of the Safety and Technical Standards for Cosmetics. The advertising prohibited-word list states that 'whitening' is a claim that requires a special permit before use." A draft sentence to be judged reads, "This product whitens and moisturizes, suitable for all skin types." The handover request reads, "Please use the above materials during store training to confirm whether the draft sentence is compliant." This sample is for paper checking only and involves no real customer or actual test.

Configuration and implementation checks

Configuration itemHypothetical trial starting pointReason and comparison method
Associated knowledge basesSelect product compliance libraries using the same vector modelVerify library identifiers and vector model identifiers; exclude those with different models
Search modeHybrid retrievalTitle compliance questions include natural language and number-based queries; compare semantic and full-text recall results
Citation limitHypothetical starting point of 2000 tokensTest content completeness with materials of different lengths; compare against a smaller value
Minimum relevanceHypothetical starting point of 0.5Label relevant and irrelevant samples first; compare filtered results
Question optimizationEnabledCompare the original question with the optimized question; check whether the subject was altered incorrectly
Result rerankingEnabledWhen a reranking model is available, compare ordering before and after reranking

These values are hypothetical trial starting points for this exercise, not official default values.

Three common errors

  1. Treating retrieval results as business authorization. Input: the cited content returned by the knowledge base search. Compare: the retrieval result against the authorization status required for the operations handover. Observe: whether recalled content is treated directly as an approved basis for action. Retrieval does not execute authorization; authorization requires downstream system implementation.
  2. Associating knowledge bases with different vector models. Input: the vector model identifiers of multiple knowledge bases. Compare: whether the identifiers are consistent. Observe: whether libraries with different models are selected together. Knowledge bases with different vector models cannot be associated; verify identifiers and exclude those that do not match.
  3. Treating the minimum relevance score as a permission or entity filter. Input: the minimum relevance setting and the retrieval request. Compare: returned content before and after filtering. Observe: whether the threshold is mistakenly assumed to exclude unrelated business or unauthorized records. The minimum relevance score only filters low-relevance results and does not perform permission isolation.

How to verify the setup

  1. Retrieve using the hypothetical sample material text and draft sentence. Input: "whitening and moisturizing" and "inspection report number Q2024-0315". Compare: whether the returned citations include the advertising prohibited-word list entry stating that "whitening" requires a special permit, and the content corresponding to the inspection report number. If the returned citations include that entry and the report content, the condition is satisfied. If the return is empty, record the gap and do not claim the rule necessarily returns an empty array.
  2. Check using the hypothetical sample handover request. Input: "Please use the above materials during store training to confirm whether the draft sentence is compliant." Compare: whether the retrieval result includes the material text and the draft sentence. Observe: whether the retrieval result is marked as pending manual review. A retrieval result does not constitute a compliance determination or authorization execution.
  3. Perform a paper check using a cross-model scenario. Input: two knowledge bases with different vector model identifiers. Compare: whether the identifiers are consistent. Observe: whether non-matching libraries are excluded. Do not execute cross-model retrieval to compare missed recall; only verify identifiers and record actual observations. If model identifiers cannot be obtained, retain the status as unsupported.
