What the documents look like
Franchise filing management handles legal disclosure and the commerce department system. It does not handle the engineering of a specific store location. In the store service and internal training step, the materials being cited are the franchise contract, the operations manual, the filing materials and the information disclosure documents. These materials are produced by different parties at different times, and their version relationships are complex. Filing information updates are irregular, and the contract ledger and store list may lag behind the actual state. The central difficulty in citation tracing is that the version, the covered entity and the authorization state of a passage of source text need a traceable link between the retrieval output and manual verification.
The knowledge base search node can associate one or more knowledge bases that share the same vector model. It outputs cited content as an array, and the length may be zero, which means the output path still runs even when no content is found. This requires citation verification in store service and internal training to take the citation array as input and compare the answer against the source text item by item. The minimum relevance score takes effect only in semantic retrieval or when result reranking is used, and it is a filter threshold, not an entity or permission isolation mechanism. The same-vector-model requirement for associated knowledge bases constrains only the knowledge bases that can be associated together, and does not extend to a business registration site or other external systems. Material timeliness needs to be tested with both the current version and a historical version of the document, and whether a citation is adopted still depends on review of the effective version.
Constraints at the citation tracing step
Suppose a franchisor headquarters plans to issue an internal training note to franchise stores. This is a clearly labelled hypothetical exercise sample. The source text to be checked is: "Article 4.2 of the March 2024 version of the Information Disclosure Document states that a franchisee shall complete the signed acknowledgement of information disclosure before signing the franchise contract. This document is effective until the date the next version is released." The draft sentence to be judged is: "A franchisee may sign the acknowledgement of information disclosure after signing the contract." The draft sentence and the source text differ on the timing of the acknowledgement, and the draft sentence is unsupported. A further handover request is: "Please synchronize the above acknowledgement requirement to the store service knowledge base and notify all operating stores." This request involves an authorization boundary: both the knowledge base write and the store notification require a separately confirmed executing party, and retrieval by itself does not constitute authorization.
Configuration and implementation checks
Configuration here centres on the checkable items for citation tracing. Internal database implementation is not listed as a required item on every page.
| Configuration or check item | Hypothetical trial starting point for this page | Reason for the choice and comparison object |
|---|---|---|
| Associated knowledge bases | Associate only the store service base that shares the same vector model | Compared with the vector model identifier of the contract ledger base; if the identifiers differ, they are not associated together |
| Search mode | Hybrid retrieval | Compared with pure semantic retrieval, clause numbers and article numbers need full-text recall as a supplement |
| Minimum relevance score | Set to 0.3 as the trial starting point for this page | Compared with the default-off state, to observe the change in the number of citations after filtering |
| Citation upper limit | Set to 2000 tokens as the trial starting point for this page | Compared with no limit, to observe truncation of long clauses |
| Result reranking | Enabled | Compared with not enabled, to observe whether ordering is closer to the clause when candidates are numerous |
| Citation content handover | Check the output array item by item against the source text | Compared with looking only at answer fluency, to confirm the source is traceable |
Three common errors
- Treating retrieval output as authorized execution. The input is the citation array returned by knowledge base search, and the comparison object is "synchronize and notify all operating stores" in the handover request. If the citation array is taken directly as authorization to write or notify, the authorization boundary is exceeded. The observable result is that the citation array exists, while the write and notification states remain pending confirmation.
- Treating the minimum relevance score as a permission or entity filter. The input is the minimum relevance score setting, and the comparison object is records of different franchise entities. If raising the value is taken to exclude unrelated entities, a similarity filter is confused with permission isolation. The observable result is that the number of items after filtering changes, while the entity scope does not change because of it.
- Judging an unstated acknowledgement timing as a contradiction. The input is the draft sentence and the March 2024 version source text in the hypothetical sample, and the comparison object is the same field, the timing of the acknowledgement. The source text states before signing, the draft sentence states after signing, and the two are mutually exclusive, which constitutes a contradiction. If the source text does not state the timing, the item can only be recorded as unsupported.
How to verify the setup
- Input the source text and the draft sentence from the hypothetical sample, and compare the field of acknowledgement timing. If the draft sentence and the source text take mutually exclusive values on the same entity, the same period and the same field, the item is judged a contradiction. If the source text does not state that field, the item is recorded as unsupported.
- Input the handover request "synchronize to the store service knowledge base and notify all operating stores" from the hypothetical sample, and compare the request scope with the retrieval output. If the retrieval output is only a citation array and there is no write or notification record, confirm that the authorization state remains pending confirmation and is not treated as executed.
- Input a paper empty array [] as the citation output, and compare it with the design of the downstream answer step. If the downstream step still runs and does not error on the empty array, confirm that the empty-result handover matches the documented description. This check does not claim that a fictional rule retrieval will necessarily return an empty array.
