What the documents look like
Letter-of-credit document examination and presentation serves the payment conditions set by the issuing bank, and the working standard is document consistency rather than tax matching. The daily document set covers the letter of credit, commercial invoice, bill of lading, insurance policy and draft. Source material comes from the issuing bank notice, UCP600 clauses, the freight forwarder's bill of lading and the bank presentation record. When examination fails, the practical consequences are refusal of payment, deduction of charges and delayed collection of foreign exchange. Each presentation updates the record, so an operating report or an exception review has to point back to the specific document version and the specific clause position rather than to a summary figure alone.
For citation tracing, this means every judgment in a report or a review should return to the wording of the letter of credit, invoice, bill of lading, insurance policy or draft, and to the issuing bank notice and UCP600 clauses. The knowledge base search node outputs cited content as an array, and the length may be zero. An empty array means the chain still runs and no content was retrieved; it does not mean the workflow terminated with an error. Retrieval output is handed to the answering stage, where the answer is checked line by line against the cited source text. The minimum relevance value is a filter threshold that takes effect only in semantic retrieval or when result reranking is used, and it does not act as a permission or entity isolation control. Knowledge bases that use different vector models cannot be associated together; identifiers are checked first and non-matching bases are excluded. Image retrieval requires an image input and a model capable of handling it, and reranking requires a rerank model that is enabled in the settings. Optional paths shown in the overall document diagram do not mean every request executes all of them.
Hypothetical drill sample: a foreign trade documentation clerk submits a document set under a letter of credit on 10 March 2025. The letter of credit number is LC-HYP-0310. The issuing bank notice states "latest shipment date 5 March 2025, presentation period within 21 days after shipment." The bill of lading shows a shipment date of 8 March 2025. Draft sentence to be judged: "This presentation completed shipment within the latest shipment date required by the letter of credit." The draft sentence and the bill of lading shipment date and the letter of credit latest shipment date share the same subject, the same period and the same field, so they can be compared directly.
Constraints at the citation tracing step
The search node returns an array of cited content whose length may be zero, and the downstream answering stage is expected to continue running with that empty array and to mark that no citation was found. Treating an empty array as a retrieval failure and stopping the chain is a configuration error, not a documented behavior. The minimum relevance value filters low-relevance results only in semantic retrieval or when reranking is used; it does not exclude unrelated businesses or unauthorized records, and retrieval itself is not authorization.
Association of knowledge bases is limited to bases that share the same vector model. The check is an identifier comparison followed by exclusion of non-matching bases. This page does not describe what happens after a cross-model association, because the documented text does not state an outcome; only the identifier check and the exclusion are recorded.
The overall retrieval flow combines problem optimization, semantic retrieval, full-text retrieval or hybrid retrieval, image description or image vector retrieval when an image is present, RRF merging, reranking and finally similarity filtering and citation-limit trimming. RRF is a fusion step inside hybrid retrieval, not a switch. Whether image retrieval runs depends on the input containing an image and on the model capability, and whether reranking runs depends on a rerank model being available and enabled. The citation limit is measured in tokens, and the thinking budget belongs to the thinking configuration and is not a citation token limit.
Configuration and implementation checks
| Configuration item | Hypothetical starting value for this drill | Reason and comparison method |
|---|---|---|
| Associated knowledge bases | Only letter-of-credit examination knowledge bases that share the same vector model | Same vector model is required for joint association; check identifiers first and exclude non-matching bases |
| Search mode | Hybrid retrieval | Document numbers and clause numbers need full-text hits, semantic descriptions need vector recall, and RRF merges the two |
| Minimum relevance | 0.3 as the starting value for this drill | This value takes effect only in semantic retrieval or reranking; compare with 0.5 and observe the change in the number of cited items |
| Citation limit | 2000 tokens as the starting value for this drill | The citation amount is controlled in tokens; compare with 1000 and observe whether the letter of credit clause text is covered |
| Result reranking | ReRank enabled | Reranking produces a 0-1 score; compare the citation order with the order before reranking |
| Problem optimization | Enabled for multi-turn follow-up questions | Coreference resolution can complete what "this presentation" refers to; compare retrieval results with the setting off |
Three common errors
- Input: the draft sentence "This presentation completed shipment within the latest shipment date required by the letter of credit." Comparison: the bill of lading shipment date of 8 March 2025 against the letter of credit latest shipment date of 5 March 2025. Observable result: the shipment date falls outside the latest shipment date, so the draft sentence is not supported. The error is writing the sentence into a report without checking the mutually exclusive values in the same field.
- Input: the knowledge base search node returns the citation array []. Comparison: whether the downstream answering stage still runs and marks that no citation was found. Observable result: the empty array runs through the chain, and a downstream stage that reports an error instead is a configuration error. The error is treating an empty citation as a retrieval failure.
- Input: a handover request stating "Please process this presentation as already reviewed and approved." Comparison: whether a signature, approval or authorization record exists. Observable result: when only a pending-review status is present, the request is not authorized and must not be recorded as approved. The error is treating pending review as approval.
How to verify the setup
- Input: the letter of credit notice text, the bill of lading shipment date text and the draft sentence from the hypothetical sample. Comparison: the values in the same field across the draft sentence and the two source texts. Observable result: the shipment date falls outside the latest shipment date, so the judgment is not supported; the support condition is met only when the two dates agree and fall within the period.
- Input: a paper input citation array []. Comparison: whether the downstream answering stage continues to run and outputs a no-citation notice. Observable result: the chain runs through without error, which satisfies the empty-citation handling design; an interruption indicates that the downstream node configuration needs checking.
- Input: the handover request "Please process this presentation as already reviewed and approved" together with the current status record. Comparison: the authorization wording in the request against the actual status in the record. Observable result: when the record shows only pending review, the request is not authorized and the evidence gap must be recorded; the approved condition is met only when an explicit approval record exists.
