What the documents look like
Cross-border product compliance occurs before listing and import, and its core is product safety and label evidence. The materials include test reports, English labels, MSDS documents, and prohibited-sales lists. Their sources are platform policies, testing institutions, destination-country regulatory databases, and suppliers, and they are updated at irregular intervals. Reports and reviews need to trace material handling records, statuses, and authorization boundaries, while the database stores only versions, statuses, and association identifiers.
Constraints at the database operations step
Because material versions change at irregular intervals, the database needs to retain multiple material records for the same product. During operational checks, staff locate them by product and version, and cannot save only the latest copy. The database does not produce compliance conclusions; reports only present records and statuses. The retrieval store and the business store have different responsibilities: vector retrieval is used to find relevant material fragments, while the business store keeps material metadata and handling statuses, and the two are checked separately according to the actual deployment. Retrieval does not carry authorization responsibility, and being able to retrieve a material does not mean the current account has the right to view or handle it. Database connections, cache connections, and vector store connections are checked according to the chosen deployment plan, and configuration values are read from what the deployer actually filled in, not inferred from variable names.
Hypothetical exercise samples
The following are hypothetical samples used for this paper-based check, and they do not correspond to any real customer or real product.
Material text one (hypothetical): The English label draft for a batch of portable lamps states “Suitable for indoor use only,” accompanied by test report number TR-2044, with a report date of March 2025, a conclusion field reading “Pass,” and a blank applicable-standards field.
Material text two (hypothetical): The MSDS file for the same product has version number v1.2, the “Revision date” inside the file is February 2025, and “Section 3 Composition” lists two ingredients with their respective CAS numbers.
Draft sentence to be judged (hypothetical): The labels and test reports for this batch of products are all complete and can be listed in the destination country.
Handover request to be judged (hypothetical): Please have operations associate the above two materials with the product record and authorize the compliance specialist to view them.
Key points for judgment: The applicable-standards field in material text one is blank, and the report does not state an applicable standard; the draft sentence says “all complete,” which is inconsistent with the blank field in text one. The phrase “authorize the compliance specialist to view” in the handover request is an authorization action, and the database association operation itself does not create viewing permission; permission must be implemented downstream by a system with permission management. Whether the product identifiers of the two materials point to the same product must be checked manually, and the database does not determine this automatically.
Configuration and implementation checks
The table below lists only officially documented settings or implementation check items relevant to the task on this page. Values marked “hypothetical starting point” are those selected for this paper-based check, chosen from defaults already described in official documentation, and the reason for selection is convenience of comparison on the samples; actual deployment is based on what the deployer filled in.
| Setting or check item | Officially documented content | Check method on this page |
|---|---|---|
| MONGODB_URI | Primary business MongoDB connection address; the documentation gives a local example address | Read the deployer’s actual value and compare it with the actual business database address |
| MONGODBLOGURI | Log MongoDB connection address; when not configured, the primary database may be reused | Check whether it is configured separately and compare it with the actual log storage location |
| REDIS_URL | Redis connection address; the documentation gives an example address | Read the actual value and compare it with the actual cache service address |
| DBMAXLINK | Maximum number of connections in the database connection pool; documented default 10, automatically limited to 10–1000 | Take the documented default 10 as the hypothetical starting point and compare it with the deployer’s actual value |
| SYNC_INDEX | Whether to create missing indexes at startup and clean up explicitly declared obsolete indexes; documented default true | Read the actual value and compare it with the division of index maintenance responsibilities |
| PG_URL | PostgreSQL/pgvector vector store connection address; documented default empty | Read the actual value and compare it with the selected vector store backend |
Three common errors
- Treating “Pass” in material text one as a label compliance conclusion. Error: The conclusion field only says Pass, while the applicable-standards field is blank, so it cannot be determined whether the label meets destination-country requirements. Check: Input the full text of text one and compare whether the “applicable standards” field has a value; it should be empty, and the draft sentence “all complete” lacks support from that field.
- Treating “authorize the compliance specialist to view” in the handover request as an incidental result of the database association operation. Error: Association and permission granting are two different matters, and a database write does not create viewing permission. Check: Input the request text and compare whether it contains an operation description for the permission management system; it should be absent, and the authorization status remains to be verified.
- Treating a retrieved material fragment as the basis for having the right to handle that material. Error: Retrieval results reflect similarity, not account permissions. Check: Input the identifier of a material fragment returned by retrieval and compare whether a corresponding permission record exists; the fragment’s existence and the permission’s existence should be independent, and when the permission record is missing, the handling status remains to be verified.
How to verify the setup
- Verification one: For material text one, input its full text and compare the “applicable standards” field with the wording of the draft sentence “all complete.” The observed result should be that the field is empty, the draft sentence is unsupported, and applicable-standards information must be added before judgment.
- Verification two: For material text two, input its version number v1.2 and revision date February 2025, and compare whether this version number is consistent with the MSDS version number registered in the product record. The observed result should be that when the two are consistent, the version association holds; when they are inconsistent or the product record has no version number, the association status remains to be verified.
- Verification three: For the handover request, input the full request text and compare whether the request states the specific operations and execution results of the permission management system. The observed result should be that the request only describes the intention to associate and authorize, does not state whether permission granting has been completed, and the authorization status remains to be verified; it is not to be regarded as authorized merely because the association operation was completed.
