Retail packaging reporting: retrieval for multilingual work

Review retrieval for multilingual work in Retail packaging reporting. Check document scope, failure paths and source evidence through controlled tests.

What the documents look like

Retail plastic bag and single-use item reporting centers on single-use plastic consumption and environmental supervision. Materials come from the Ministry of Commerce reporting system, POS plastic bag sales, procurement systems and store ledgers. Routine documents include plastic bag procurement ledgers, sales vouchers, half-year reports and self-discipline commitments. Two update rhythms appear in the the source material reads half-year and daily. Cross-border and multilingual retrieval must hold Chinese ledgers, foreign-language sales vouchers and multilingual commitment text in the same working set.

This category differs from cashier membership promotion in its regulatory reporting character. Retrieval results feed directly into rectification deadlines, fines and regulatory interviews, so recalled content must locate a specific material and field. The source brief places the fine range at ten thousand to one hundred thousand yuan and lists rectification within a deadline and regulatory interviews as consequences, but it does not state which document triggers which consequence.

Constraints at the retrieval step

The knowledge base search node can associate one or more knowledge bases that use the same vector model. Bases built on different vector models cannot be associated together. The practical step is to check each base's vector model identifier and exclude any base whose identifier does not match; the source does not describe what happens if mismatched bases are associated, so that outcome stays unknown.

Search modes are semantic retrieval, full-text retrieval and hybrid retrieval. Semantic retrieval carries cross-multilingual understanding, which suits matching foreign-language vouchers against Chinese questions. Full-text retrieval suits numbers, model designations and proper nouns. Hybrid retrieval merges multiple result paths through RRF, and ReRank reorders candidate text. The minimum relevance value takes effect only under semantic retrieval or when result reordering is used. The citation limit is measured in tokens, and the output citation array can have length zero, meaning the downstream chain still runs when nothing is found.

Retrieval and form collection do not constitute authorized execution. Submission, approval and database writes require a separate downstream implementation. Forms collect values; they do not verify business facts.

A hypothetical paper exercise sample: the material text to be checked reads, "In the first half of 2024, Store A's plastic bag procurement ledger contains 12 entries; the sales voucher number is POS-2024-06-018; the self-discipline commitment was signed on 5 March 2024; the half-year report submission status is pending review." The draft sentence to be judged reads, "Store A's half-year report for the first half of the year has been submitted and completed." Against the source text, the submission status is pending review, so the draft sentence's claim of completed submission is not supported and must be recorded as pending verification, not as completed.

Configuration and implementation checks

Configuration itemHypothetical starting point for this exerciseReason and comparison method
Associated knowledge basesAssociate only two bases using the same vector model: the ledger base and the voucher baseCheck vector model identifiers first, exclude mismatched bases, then compare whether recalled content covers both material types
Search modeHybrid retrievalLedgers contain numbers, vouchers contain foreign-language descriptions; compare whether both semantic and full-text result paths appear
Citation limitHypothetical starting value of 2000 tokensTest with ledger and voucher passages of different lengths to see whether content is truncated, comparing against full passage length
Minimum relevanceHypothetical starting value of 0.4Label relevant and irrelevant samples first, then compare whether irrelevant fragments decrease after threshold adjustment
Question optimizationEnabledCompare the original question with the optimized question, checking whether the subject "Store A" and the period "first half of the year" are altered incorrectly
ReRankEnabledWhen candidates are numerous, compare reordering scores to confirm relevant vouchers rank ahead of irrelevant fragments

Three common errors

  1. Treating retrieval or a form as authorized execution. Observable error: seeing "half-year report submission status is pending review" and concluding the report has been submitted. The input to check is that status field; the comparison object is the phrase "submitted and completed"; the observable result is that the two do not match, so the item is recorded as pending verification.
  2. Associating knowledge bases that use different vector models. Observable error: associating the ledger base together with a voucher base built on a different vector model. The input to check is each base's vector model identifier; the comparison object is the same-model requirement; the observable result is that mismatched identifiers are excluded and no cross-model retrieval is executed.
  3. Treating minimum relevance as a permission or entity filter. Observable error: assuming a higher relevance threshold excludes unauthorized store records. The input to check is the relevance threshold and the store scope; the comparison object is the authorization boundary; the observable result is that threshold changes do not alter the authorization scope, which requires a separate downstream implementation.

How to verify the setup

  1. For the hypothetical sample source text, input the question "What is the submission status of Store A's half-year report for the first half of the year?" Compare whether the recalled content contains the "pending review" field. The condition is met when that field appears in the citation content and no rewrite to "submitted and completed" appears. This is an expected observation, not a recorded test result.
  2. For the draft sentence "Store A's half-year report for the first half of the year has been submitted and completed," input that sentence as the text to be judged. Compare the source status field with the draft wording. The condition is met when the two do not match and the item is recorded as pending verification.
  3. For the empty-result branch, input a paper-constructed citation array of []. Compare whether the downstream design can accept an output of length zero. The condition is met when the downstream chain runs without error. This check does not claim that a fabricated rule search necessarily returns an empty result.

Across all three checks, the same subject, same period and same field must be compared. Only mutually exclusive values within one field count as a contradiction. Evidence that is absent or shows only an intermediate stage is recorded as unsupported or pending verification, never as a negation. A pending review status does not demonstrate a lack of operating authority. The authorization state of materials, operations and requests at handover must be recorded separately, and retrieval or form collection must not be treated as authorization execution.
