What the documents look like
Multi-warehouse allocation decides which warehouse ships an order, and it sits at the order-routing stage rather than at the courier handover stage. The working materials for this category come from WMS, OMS, ERP inventory and platform inventory interfaces, and they update by day or by hour. The documents that operations staff handle day to day are allocation rules, inventory synchronization tables, transfer orders and shortage warnings. In operations permission and handover management, these materials serve as source evidence. Citation tracing answers one question: what authorization state does a given operation, request or document actually hold.
That question is narrower than it may appear. A retrieval hit returns material; it does not return permission. A form collects values; business verification, approval, database writes and external synchronization each need their own downstream implementation. The allocation rule, the synchronization table, the transfer order and the shortage warning each carry a version and an effective scope, and those two attributes determine what may be cited during a handover. When the version or the scope is missing, the citation remains unsupported or pending verification, and the page records that gap rather than filling it.
Constraints at the citation tracing step
The knowledge base search node outputs citation content as an array, and the array length may be zero. A zero-length output means the output link still runs even when no content was found. The citation limit is controlled in tokens, and the minimum relevance value applies only under semantic retrieval or when result reranking is used. Neither the token limit nor the relevance value acts as a category, entity or permission filter, and neither one excludes unrelated businesses or unauthorized records. Retrieval is not authorization.
The workflow diagram lists several optional paths, and those paths do not all execute on every request. Image retrieval requires a corresponding image input and model capability. Reranking requires a rerank model and must be enabled by its setting. Knowledge bases that use different vector models cannot be associated together; the identifier is checked first and non-matching bases are excluded, without running a cross-model retrieval to compare missed recalls. RRF is a fusion process for mixed results, not a switch that is turned on.
Hypothetical drill sample. The source text reads: "East China allocation rule V3, effective date 1 March 2025, applicable order scope: East China region direct-ship orders. Inventory synchronization table snapshot at 10:00 on 5 March 2025 shows SKU-A sellable quantity 120 units. Transfer order TR-0305 status is pending review, requesting transfer of 80 units of SKU-A from the South China warehouse to the East China warehouse." The draft sentence under review reads: "The East China warehouse has obtained SKU-A transfer replenishment under rule V3, and sellable inventory is sufficient." Comparing the draft sentence with the source text: the transfer order status is pending review, and pending review does not constitute execution; the snapshot time point and the state described in the draft sentence must be checked against the same period and the same field.
Configuration and implementation checks
| Configuration or check item | Purpose on this page | Verification method |
|---|---|---|
| Associated knowledge bases | Define the retrieval scope for citation sources | Check the selected knowledge bases and material versions; only bases with the same vector model may be associated together |
| Citation content output | Carry the retrieval result array | Confirm the output length may be zero; an empty array is not treated as a workflow error termination |
| Citation input handover | Pass retrieval output to the answering step | Check each answer statement against the cited source text; do not substitute answer fluency for source evidence |
| Citation display check | Check that displayed source text matches its origin | Use a traceable sample; do not substitute the thinking process for source evidence |
| Material currency check | Distinguish current and historical document versions | Test sources with two versions; whether a citation is adopted still depends on effective-version review |
Hypothetical trial starting point: set the citation limit to 2000 tokens. The reason for this choice is that the sample materials run to several hundred characters and need to hold three citations covering the allocation rule, the synchronization table and the transfer order. The comparison method against 500 tokens is to observe whether the three citations are truncated. This value is a hypothetical starting point for this drill and is not an official default.
Three common errors
- Treating a pending-review transfer order as executed replenishment. The input is the sample source text "transfer order TR-0305 status is pending review." The comparison object is the draft sentence "has obtained transfer replenishment." The observable result is that the two status fields do not match, and the draft sentence is unsupported.
- Treating a retrieval hit as an authorization credential. The input is the citation array returned by the knowledge base search. The comparison object is the authorization claim in the handover request. The observable result is that when the citation content contains no approval or effective-status field, the authorization state remains pending verification.
- Mixing the snapshot time point with the period stated in the draft sentence. The input is "snapshot at 10:00 on 5 March 2025." The comparison object is the inventory description in the draft sentence, which carries no period label. The observable result is that the period field is missing, and same-period consistency cannot be determined.
How to verify the setup
- Input the three source materials from the sample and the draft sentence. Compare the draft sentence against the transfer order status field. The observable result is that "has obtained transfer replenishment" conflicts with "pending review," and the statement is judged unsupported.
- Input the sample source text and a handover request reading "please release East China warehouse SKU-A shipment under rule V3." Compare the rule version and effective date relied on by the request. The observable result is that the rule version and effective date match, but the transfer execution status is still missing, and the authorization boundary of the request remains pending verification.
- Input an explicit paper empty-result array []. Compare how the downstream design handles an empty array. The observable result is that if the downstream treats the empty array as no citation and continues the flow, the empty-result handover holds. No claim is made that a fictional rule retrieval necessarily returns an empty array.
Knowledge bases using different vector models cannot be associated together. Check the identifier first, exclude non-matching bases, and record the actual observation rather than running a cross-model retrieval to compare missed recalls. The optional paths listed in the overall document flow diagram do not mean every request executes all of them. Where a field is not stated, or where only stage-related evidence exists, the record is unsupported or pending verification. A pending request is not approval, an offered option is not execution, and an unsigned termination is not a completed termination.
