Parcel labels and handoffs: upgrades for operations handover

Review upgrades for operations handover in Parcel labels and handoffs. Check document scope, failure paths and source evidence through controlled tests.

What the documents look like

Parcel handoff takes place at the point where a package leaves the warehouse, and the central record is the carrier scan. The working materials for this category are electronic waybills, handoff manifests, pickup scan records and exception-item registers. These materials come from the courier system, warehouse shipment records, service standards and carrier statements, and they refresh per batch and per day.

For an operations permissions and handoff task, the materials matter because each one carries a different authorization state. A waybill print request, a manifest submission and a pickup scan record are separate objects. The materials record field values. They do not show that an operation was approved. A manifest number identifies a batch. A scan count states how many records were scanned. An exception register states that an item is pending verification. None of these fields is an approval, and none of them is an execution record.

Constraints at the upgrades step

The upgrade path for this version involves image updates for the main service and the commercial service, plus manual migration scripts that appear under version upgrade in the administration area. Two manual tasks are documented: 20261008_migrate_chunk_training and 20261009_migrate_dataset_rebuild_status. The second depends on the first, and neither blocks service startup. Before running them, all older instances of the main service and the commercial service should be confirmed stopped and old task leases expired. These are preconditions stated in the upgrade notes, not automatic checks.

Two AI Proxy settings are required. AIPROXY_API_ENDPOINT and AIPROXY_API_TOKEN must both be set, and a missing value in either one causes startup validation to fail. Older single-model address settings do not replace them. This matters for handoff work because the application must start before any import, retrieval or application call can be reviewed after upgrade.

Retrieval and forms collect values. Business verification, approval, database writes and external synchronization each need their own downstream implementation. A similarity score does not carry permission or entity isolation duties. A form submission is a request, not an approval. A pending review is not an executed handoff.

Hypothetical drill sample, clearly labelled: a warehouse shipment group prepares handoff materials before an upgrade. The source text reads: "This batch contains 120 electronic waybills, handoff manifest number JC-0417, pickup scan records show 118 scanned entries, exception register shows 2 entries pending verification." The draft sentence under review reads: "This batch of 120 parcels has completed pickup handoff, authorizing the shipment group to perform subsequent operations." The phrases "has completed pickup handoff" and "authorizing" do not appear in the source material. The material states a scan count and a pending-verification status. The subject, object, status and validity scope needed for the draft claim are partly absent.

Configuration and implementation checks

Configuration itemHypothetical starting value for this drillComparison method
AIPROXYAPIENDPOINTAssume http://aiproxy:3000Compare against the documented example format and confirm no /v1 suffix
AIPROXYAPITOKENAssume a non-empty stringCompare against the AI Proxy server configuration and confirm both match and neither is empty
Manual upgrade script preconditionsAssume all older instances stoppedCheck each instance state and whether old task leases have expired
Post-upgrade sample reviewAssume the same JC-0417 batch materialsRe-run import and retrieval with the same sample and record what is observed
Manifest authorization stateAssume the material records field values onlyCompare against approval records; where absent, record as pending verification

The starting values are chosen because the two AI Proxy settings are required for startup validation, and the hypothetical values exist to exercise the format and consistency comparison. They are compared against documented example values. They are not official defaults.

Three common errors

  1. Treating a scan count in the material as evidence of completed handoff. Input: the JC-0417 material line "118 scanned entries." Compare against the draft sentence "has completed pickup handoff." Observable result: the material does not state a completion status, so the claim is unsupported.
  2. Treating a form submission as authorized execution. Input: a handoff request submitted by the shipment group. Compare against approval records. Observable result: a pending-review state does not demonstrate that operating permission was granted, and the authorization state remains pending verification.
  3. Treating a similarity score as a permission filter. Input: a relevance value returned by retrieval. Compare against the authorization field of the target record. Observable result: relevance does not exclude unauthorized records, and permission must be checked separately.

How to verify the setup

  1. Input the hypothetical source text "This batch contains 120 electronic waybills, handoff manifest number JC-0417, pickup scan records show 118 scanned entries, exception register shows 2 entries pending verification." Compare against the draft sentence "This batch of 120 parcels has completed pickup handoff, authorizing the shipment group to perform subsequent operations." Expected: the material does not state completion or authorization, so the judgment is unsupported and the evidence gap is recorded.
  2. Input the same material line "exception register shows 2 entries pending verification." Compare against any statement claiming full completion. Expected: a pending-verification status is inconsistent with a full-completion claim, and that claim does not hold.
  3. Input a hypothetical empty result []. Compare against the downstream design for handling empty results. Expected: check whether the downstream design distinguishes an empty result from a lack of permission, without asserting that a fictional rule retrieval necessarily returns an empty array.

All three verification steps use the hypothetical sample above and were not actually executed. Retrieval checks record observations and failure branches only. They do not guarantee a first hit or full recall. Libraries built on different vector models cannot be associated together; check identifiers and exclude non-matching ones.
