What the data for this category looks like

This category covers coating line operations for automotive, home appliance, engineering machinery, and metal furniture. Daily documents include coating process cards, paint batch sheets, paint mixing records, film thickness and color difference reports, oven curves, defect repair orders, and VOCs ledgers. Data sources include paint supplier TDS/SDS, spray booth and oven operating data, colorimeter and film thickness gauge test data, environmental monitoring records, and MES systems. Documents are updated per paint batch, per shift output, and for continuously collected real-time operating data. Documents include numerical fields with units, such as μm for film thickness and seconds for viscosity. Some documents include structured tables and line charts.

What constraints these characteristics impose on the document parsing and chunking workflow

Multiple document types and real-time updated data require parsing tools to support text, tables, line charts, and other formats, to avoid losing field associations. Numerical fields with units must retain complete parameters and corresponding identifiers during chunking. Otherwise, defect causes and process parameters cannot be matched during retrieval. Continuously collected oven curves and process cards must cover complete time or process segments. Chunk length should not be too short, as this will break the coherence of process logic. Compliance-related VOCs ledgers must retain individual entries in full, and critical information must not be truncated by automatic chunking.

How to configure the settings

The following configurations apply to FastGPT v4.17.0

Configuration ItemRecommended SettingRationale
chunkSize800–1200 charactersAdapts to documents such as coating process cards and oven curves, covers complete process segments or single-batch data, and avoids truncating the association between key parameters
chunkSplitterSplit by paragraph + tableAdapts to documents with multi-column tables such as paint mixing records and film thickness reports, retains the correspondence between fields and values within cells
customPdfParseEnable structured parsingExtracts chart and table data from oven curves and defect repair orders, avoids losing the correspondence between coordinates and values from plain text parsing
PARSE_FILE_TIMEOUT_SECONDS120 secondsAdapts to large coating process documents or batch-imported batch sheets, prevents task interruptions caused by excessively long parsing times
chunkSettingModeManual modeFor compliance documents such as VOCs ledgers, custom chunk boundaries can be set to ensure that individual ledger entries are retained in full

Three common misconfigurations

  • After uploading a multi-column paint mixing record Excel file, the parsed text chunks are split chaotically. Individual paint ratio and viscosity test data are split across different chunks, making corresponding relationships unmatchable during retrieval. The cause is failing to set chunkSplitter to split by paragraph + table. The default chunking logic only splits by line breaks, and does not recognize the cell structure of tables.
  • When uploading a single oven curve PDF document with a duration longer than 30 minutes, the interface displays a parsing timeout and returns a 504 status code. The cause is failing to adjust PARSE_FILE_TIMEOUT_SECONDS to 120 seconds. The default timeout duration is insufficient for parsing long-duration curve documents.
  • After uploading a VOCs ledger PDF, only partial entry content is returned during retrieval, and complete ledger numbers and emission data cannot be obtained. The cause is failing to switch chunkSettingMode to manual mode. The automatic chunking logic does not recognize the entry boundaries of the ledger, resulting in individual compliance entries being truncated.

How to confirm configurations are correctly set

  • Upload a coating process card PDF, view the parsed text chunks, and confirm that associated fields such as process parameters and batch numbers are not split across chunks.
  • Upload a single oven curve document, check that the parsing duration matches the PARSE_FILE_TIMEOUT_SECONDS setting, and no timeout errors occur.
  • Import a multi-column paint mixing record Excel file, confirm that complete column fields and corresponding values are retained within each parsed chunk.
  • Test retrieval of an individual entry from the VOCs ledger, confirm that complete ledger content is returned without truncation.

The values provided are common starting points and should be measured against the reader's own samples.
