B2B marketplaces: citation tracing for copy drafting

Review citation tracing for copy drafting in B2B marketplaces. Check document scope, failure paths and source evidence through controlled tests.

What the documents look like

In B2B marketplace matchmaking, the source materials used to check product and marketing copy are enterprise verification records, inquiry and quotation sheets, electronic contracts, and platform settlement statements. Enterprise verification records carry the entity name and verification status. Inquiry and quotation sheets carry the product, quantity, and quotation validity period. Electronic contracts carry the terms agreed by both parties. Platform settlement statements carry the per-order amount and time. When drafting copy, the entity, object, status, and validity scope drawn from these materials are cited so that transactions with false entities and contract disputes are reduced. Materials update daily or per order, so the current version is checked before drafting, and an expired verification status or lapsed quotation is kept out of the copy.

Two features of this category affect the citation tracing step directly. Verification status moves through states such as submitted and awaiting platform review, so a draft sentence that treats a pending state as a completed one departs from the source wording. Quotation validity period is a separate fact from ongoing supply capability, so a quotation end date neither supports nor rules out a claim about long-term supply. Both distinctions are decided by comparing the draft sentence against the source text, not by the fluency of the answer.

Constraints at the citation tracing step

The knowledge base search node can associate one or more knowledge bases that use the same vector model, and it outputs cited content as an array whose length can be zero. A zero-length array means the output path still runs even when nothing is found. Search modes include semantic search, full-text search, hybrid search, and result reranking. Hybrid search merges multiple result paths through RRF. Reranking requires a model and is enabled according to settings. The minimum relevance score takes effect only under semantic search or result reranking, and it is a filtering threshold that does not perform permission or entity isolation. The citation limit controls the maximum content cited per search, measured in tokens. Search output is passed to the answering step, where each answer sentence is checked against the cited source text. Image retrieval requires image input and model capability. The optional paths shown in the overall document flow diagram are not all executed on every request. Knowledge bases with different vector models cannot be associated together; identifiers are checked first and non-matching ones are excluded.

Hypothetical paper exercise sample: a supplier submits enterprise verification records on a B2B platform, and the source text reads "Entity name: a certain machinery parts supplier in North China; verification status is submitted, awaiting platform review; verification validity: not stated." The accompanying inquiry and quotation sheet reads "Product: bearing kits; quantity: 500 units; quotation valid until June 30, 2025." A proposed draft sentence reads "This supplier has passed platform verification and supplies bearing kits stably over the long term." On checking, the verification status is awaiting review, so the draft sentence saying "has passed" does not match the source. Quotation validity and ongoing supply capability are two separate facts; the quotation end date neither supports nor rules out long-term supply, and the long-term supply part is marked as not determinable from the available materials. This sample only illustrates the checking steps and does not indicate that any real review or transaction occurred.

Configuration and implementation checks

The table below lists, around the sample above, official documented settings or implementation check items relevant to this feature and primary task. The values are starting points for this hypothetical exercise, used for comparison with the sample source text, and are not official default values.

Configuration itemStarting point for this hypothetical exerciseReason for the choice and comparison target
Associated knowledge baseSelect one knowledge base containing enterprise verification records and inquiry and quotation sheetsCheck the selected knowledge base and material version first; only the same vector model can be associated together
Search modeHybrid searchThe sample contains an entity name and a product name, requiring both semantic recall and full-text recall
Minimum relevance scoreSet to 0.5Compare with the comparison result between the verification status sentence and the draft sentence in the sample, and observe whether low-relevance fragments are filtered
Citation limitSet to 2000 tokensCompare with the source material length in the sample, and observe whether the cited content covers the verification status and quotation validity period
Result rerankingEnabledWhen the sample has many candidate results, use the rerank score to assist filtering
Citation output handlingConnect the search node output to the answering stepCheck each answer sentence against the cited source text, and confirm the draft sentence stays within the material scope

Three common errors

  1. Writing a pending review status as passed. The input is "verification status is submitted, awaiting platform review" in the sample. The comparison target is the draft sentence "has passed platform verification." The observable result is that the two statuses do not match, and the draft sentence lacks material support.
  2. Treating the quotation end date as evidence of long-term supply. The input is "quotation valid until June 30, 2025" in the sample. The comparison target is the draft sentence "supplies stably over the long term." The observable result is that quotation validity and ongoing supply capability are two separate facts, and the long-term supply part is marked as not determinable from the available materials.
  3. Treating the minimum relevance score as a permission filter. The input is the minimum relevance score setting. The comparison target is the verification records of different entities in the sample. The observable result is that this setting only filters low-relevance fragments and does not exclude unauthorized records; permission isolation requires downstream implementation.

How to verify the setup

  1. Input the verification status source text and the draft sentence from the sample, and compare "awaiting platform review" with "has passed platform verification." If the two do not match, the draft sentence is revised or marked as pending confirmation.
  2. Input the quotation validity source text and the draft sentence from the sample, and compare "until June 30, 2025" with "supplies stably over the long term." If the draft sentence does not reflect the quotation end date and there is no ongoing supply evidence, the long-term supply part is marked as not determinable from the available materials, and the commercial quotation terms are checked against the validity period.
  3. Input the citation array output by the search node, and compare the array length with the coverage of the sample materials. If the output is an empty array, the downstream design handles the empty result, which does not mean the workflow has errored out.
