Product listing reviews: citation tracing for document comparison

Review citation tracing for document comparison in Product listing reviews. Check sources, input boundaries, error handling and repeatable test evidence.

What the documents look like

Platform product title and detail compliance handles advertising truthfulness and qualification display. It does not handle parcel delivery. The working materials for this category include a product title table, detail page assets, an advertising prohibited-words list, and quality inspection reports. These materials come from a platform rules center, a brand asset library, and inspection agencies. The update cadence described in the source material is weekly and on each new listing.

For contract and transaction material comparison in this category, a promotional sentence in a title or detail page is matched line by line against contract clauses, transaction evidence, and inspection conclusions, so that the cited source can be traced. The same parameter can appear in both an inspection report and a detail page. When versions disagree, the review conclusion of the effective version governs.

A hypothetical paper exercise sample is used throughout this page. The material text reads: "Party A commissions Party B to produce batch A-2401 goods, contract number HT-2024-017, signing date 5 March 2024, inspection report number QC-2403-088 with a conclusion of meeting the standard." The proposed copy sentence reads: "This product has passed inspection and obtained Party A's authorization for sale." The item to check is whether the phrase "authorization for sale" has a corresponding clause in the material, and whether the effective scope of the inspection conclusion covers batch A-2401.

Constraints at the citation tracing step

Citation tracing requires that every promotional sentence can be traced back to a specific material. The knowledge base search node outputs cited content as an array, and the length may be zero. When the array is empty, the downstream workflow still runs through; an empty array is not a workflow error or termination.

Semantic recall and relevance do not carry permission or entity isolation. The requirement that linked knowledge bases share the same vector model does not extend to external systems such as business registration sites. The minimum relevance value takes effect only under semantic search or when result reranking is used; it is a filter threshold, not a final sorting rule. RRF is the fusion process for mixed search results, not a toggle that can be switched on.

Image retrieval requires corresponding image input and model capability. Reranking requires an available rerank model and must be enabled according to settings. The optional paths listed in the overall retrieval flow do not mean every request executes all of them.

The proposed copy sentence in the sample contains "authorization for sale." The material text records a commission to produce batch A-2401 and an inspection conclusion. It does not state an authorization clause. The inspection conclusion names report QC-2403-088, and the scope must be compared against batch A-2401. Where a field is not stated, the status remains unsupported or pending verification. A pending review is not approval. An offered option is not execution.

Configuration and implementation checks

Configuration itemHypothetical starting value for this exerciseComparison method and notes
Linked knowledge basesProduct compliance library sharing the same vector modelCheck the selected knowledge base identifier and material version; libraries with different vector models are not linked together
Search modeMixed searchUses semantic and full-text recall together, fused through RRF
Minimum relevanceSet to 0.5 for this exerciseThis is a starting value for the exercise, compared against retrieval result scores; it takes effect only under semantic search or reranking
Citation limitSet to 2000 tokens for this exerciseThis is a starting value for the exercise, compared against the length of cited content in a single search
Result rerankingEnabled as neededRequires an available rerank model; the rerank score is 0-1 and is used for filtering
Cited content outputArray, length may be zeroWhen the array is empty, downstream steps still run; this is not treated as an error termination

The starting values above are chosen so that the exercise has a concrete comparison point. They are not official defaults and were not tested. The minimum relevance value is compared against retrieval result scores. The citation limit is compared against the token length of cited content. Neither value establishes permission, entity isolation, or authorization.

Three common errors

  1. Treating a retrieval hit as proof of authorization. Input: the cited content array returned by the knowledge base search. Compare whether the cited original text contains an authorization clause. Observable result: when the cited content contains only the inspection conclusion, the phrase "authorization for sale" remains unsupported.
  2. Treating the minimum relevance value as a permission filter. Input: the minimum relevance setting and the retrieval results. Compare whether that value excludes unrelated business records. Observable result: the value filters low-relevance content only; it does not perform entity or permission isolation.
  3. Treating a pending review state as effective. Input: the contract signing date and the review status field. Compare the three distinct facts of signing, cooperation reached, and contract effectiveness. Observable result: when only a signing date is present, the effective status remains pending verification.

How to verify the setup

  1. Input the material text and the proposed copy sentence from the hypothetical sample. Compare whether the phrase "authorization for sale" has a corresponding clause. Observable result: when the material does not state an authorization clause, that wording remains unsupported.
  2. Input inspection report number QC-2403-088 and batch A-2401 from the hypothetical sample. Compare whether the effective scope of the inspection conclusion covers that batch. Observable result: when the scope matches, the conclusion can be cited; when the scope is not stated, record the gap.
  3. Input an empty citation array []. Compare whether the downstream answer step still runs through. Observable result: with an empty array the chain runs through. This exercise does not claim that a retrieval under an invented rule will always return an empty array.

For the first check, the comparison is between the proposed sentence and the material text. The material text names Party A, Party B, batch A-2401, contract HT-2024-017, signing date 5 March 2024, and inspection report QC-2403-088. It does not name an authorization clause. The gap remains a gap; it is not converted into a denial or a conflict.

For the second check, the comparison is between the batch named in the inspection conclusion and batch A-2401. If the report states a different batch or does not state a batch, the scope is not established for A-2401.

For the third check, the empty array is a paper input for design verification. The documented behavior is that the output link still runs through. No claim is made about what a live retrieval would return.

Across the page, the distinctions that matter are these: the search node has documented behavior; some fields are configurable; some checks are manual review actions; and some business actions such as approval, database writes, or external synchronization require separate downstream implementation. Retrieval is not authorization. A form collects values. A pending request is not approval. An unsigned termination is not a completed termination.
