What the documents look like
Amazon FBA preparation moves inventory into platform warehouses ahead of demand. The dominant risks are inbound discrepancies and inventory age, and these can lead to lost buy-box position, higher storage fees, or failed claims. The working materials for this category include FBA inbound plans, box labels, inventory reports, and compensation applications. Their sources include Amazon Seller Central, FBA inventory reports, freight forwarder tracking, and ERP purchase orders. During an operations handover these materials sit in mixed states: some submitted, some pending review, some still drafts. Citation tracing addresses one question only: can both sides of a handover point to the exact passage in the exact document that supports each conclusion, and can they read the authorization state of that document at the moment of handover. A retrieved inbound plan shows that a file exists. It does not show that the plan was approved or executed.
Constraints at the citation tracing step
The knowledge base search node can associate one or more knowledge bases that share the same vector model, and it outputs cited content as an array whose length may be zero. A zero-length output still lets the downstream chain run, so an empty citation array is a legitimate output and does not by itself indicate a workflow error. The citation limit is measured in tokens. The minimum relevance value is a filter threshold that applies only in semantic retrieval or when result reranking is used. Neither of these settings performs permission filtering. A similarity score does not distinguish business ownership, and a retrieval hit does not constitute authorization. Hybrid retrieval merges multiple result paths through RRF; reranking requires a ReRank model enabled by configuration; image retrieval requires image input and matching model capability. These paths do not run on every request.
Hypothetical paper exercise: operator A hands a batch of FBA preparation materials to operator B at a cross-border seller. One material reads: "FBA inbound plan PLAN-2024-0311, created 11 March 2024, status is pending review; planned inbound quantity 600 units, destination warehouse US West." A second material reads: "Compensation application CASE-2024-0305, submitted 5 March 2024, status is submitted, claim amount pending platform assessment." The draft sentence to be judged is: "PLAN-2024-0311 has been approved and can be shipped; CASE-2024-0305 compensation has been received." Judgement points: the inbound plan status field reads "pending review," which is mutually exclusive with "approved" on the same field, so the draft sentence is unsupported; the compensation application status reads "submitted," and receipt of funds is not stated in the material, so that part is also unsupported.
Configuration and implementation checks
| Configuration or check item | Setting relevant to this page | How to check, and the boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Associated knowledge bases | One or more knowledge bases sharing the same vector model | Compare vector model identifiers first and exclude bases that do not match; do not run cross-model retrieval comparisons |
| Cited content output | Array format, length may be zero | Use a paper input of [] to check whether the downstream step accepts an empty result; do not infer that retrieval always returns empty |
| Citation limit | Controls cited content volume in tokens | Set the hypothetical starting value at 2000 tokens for this exercise, chosen to cover the two source materials, then compare against the actual sample length and adjust |
| Minimum relevance | A 0-1 value, effective only in semantic retrieval or result reranking | Used to filter low-relevance results; not a permission or entity isolation mechanism |
| Search mode | Semantic retrieval, full-text retrieval, hybrid retrieval | Use full-text or hybrid retrieval for identifier-type fields; RRF is a merging process, not a switch |
| Result reranking | Requires a ReRank model, enabled by configuration | Rerank scores are 0-1 and can be used for filtering; when not enabled, no rerank result is produced |
Three common errors
- Treating a retrieval hit as authorization. Input: the retrieval result for PLAN-2024-0311. Comparison object: the status field of that plan, which reads "pending review." If the draft sentence says "approved," the two values are mutually exclusive on the same field, so the sentence is unsupported. Executable check: take the status field from the source material, compare it word by word against the draft sentence, and observe whether the two conflict on the same field.
- Treating "pending review" as proof that operating permission is absent. Input: an inbound plan with status "pending review." Comparison object: the handover request phrase "can be shipped." The material does not state a review conclusion, so the item is pending verification. Executable check: search the material for a review conclusion field; if it is absent, record the evidence gap and do not supply an authorization clause.
- Treating "submitted" as "received." Input: CASE-2024-0305 with status "submitted" and amount "pending platform assessment." Comparison object: the draft sentence "compensation has been received." The material does not state receipt, so the sentence is unsupported. Executable check: confirm whether application status and receipt record are two separate facts, and keep the gap open when receipt evidence is missing.
How to verify the setup
- Against the sample text "status is pending review," input the draft sentence "PLAN-2024-0311 has been approved." Compare the values of the same status field and observe whether a mutually exclusive conflict appears. A conflict satisfies the identification condition; the expected outcome is a judgement of unsupported.
- Against the sample text "status is submitted, claim amount pending platform assessment," input the draft sentence "compensation has been received." Compare whether the material states a receipt fact and observe whether a receipt record exists in the material. Its absence satisfies the gap-preservation condition; the expected outcome is pending verification.
- Against the cited content output, input a paper empty array []. Compare whether the downstream answer step still runs and observe whether the output chain breaks because of the empty citation. A running chain satisfies the acceptance condition; the expected outcome is that an empty result can be handled downstream. All three are paper expectations and were not actually executed.
